3rd Grade Bible Palooza, October.JPG)
Bible Palooza is a special time in the life of our congregation. Our 3rd Grade children have reached an important time in their spiritual walk. They have looked at pictures in bible storybooks. They have heard Bible stories read. They have maybe even memorized Bible verses. Now the time has come for them to have their very own Bible, to read these stories and discover more about the Christian faith for themselves.
Because this is such an important milestone in their young lives, Sugarloaf Kids has created a month long special BLASt workshop that will teach our children why they should use their Bible daily and teach them how to use it. We believe at Sugarloaf Kids it's just not good enough to hand a child a Bible! We believe that receipt of this Bible is a family commitment and that the Bible is an important guide for Christian living to all who read it. Having grown in their reading skills to understand many words for themselves, your children will be eager to explore the pages of their new Bible, and will then learn more about God’s plan for their lives.

AUGUST THEME: Joshua: Courageous Faith
Scripture Sources: Joshua 1-6
The bottom line: As we grow, our growing faith in God helps us to step out in courage and obey him.
Bible Verse:“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
By the End of this Class!
· Children will understand that our faith grows as we explore who scripture reveals God to and we experience his faithfulness in our own lives.
· Children will understand that faith is fortified as we remember God’s faithfulness in our loves and the lives of others.
· Children will understand that the Israelites demonstrated their faith in obeying God’s bizarre instructions and apply this lesson to their own lives.
· Children will understand that it is important to place our trust in God, not in the power of the world.
Art: The children will help tell the story of Joshua by participating in a filling-in-the-blanks Bible story to see how much of the story they know and make colored rice pictures of Joshua.
Cooking: Children will hear the story of what it took for the wall of Jericho to fall down and then make Jericho Pancakes and watch them fall!
Drama:Children will participate in a guided movement exercise to prepare them for a dramatic reenactment of crossing the Jordan and conquering Jericho and reflect on the story by writing a problem on a piece of paper that they affix to a cardboard brick; pray in faith and knock down the wall.
Games: Children will create a Mad Libs game of Josh’s Krazy Kingdom Tale and then play a game of Bible Jeopardy to reinforce what they have learned.
Music/Movement: Children participate in Israel’s Musical Journey by using Boom Whackers, Bells, Kazoos and xylophones and then play a fun game of Scooter Scriptionary to reinforce what they learned.
Science: Children will participate in an archaeological dig to uncover evidence that reveals information about Jericho and its fall and link scientific data from actual archeological investigations to the Biblical account of crossing the Jordan and the fall of Jericho.
Storytelling: Children will hear the story of Rahab and the spies listening carefully to clues to discover the secret signal (Red-Rope). They will make Red-Rope Promises as reminders that we can count on God to keep His promises and end with a “lifeline” prayer.
Video: Children will watch the Veggie Tales Video “Josh and the Big Wall” & “The Story of Joshua” (Beginners Bible Series) and use reflection questions to help the children explore the information they learned and to explore how they can apply these lessons to their lives.
