Thinking about getting back into church? Never been to one? Just moved to town? Or maybe you're surfing around the net out of curiosity? Well, let us invite you to peek into this site and see if Sugarloaf United Methodist church is just the church for you.
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:
What's it like over there at Sugarloaf?
I mean, I don’t actually "own" a suit and... And you don't need one with us! We're a casual bunch, at least in the way we dress. Blue jeans? Yep. Sundresses? You bet. We don't care much about clothes but we care about each other. You'll find acceptance here at Sugarloaf no matter what your background. Really, you will.
What is the Main thing? What is the Mission? What is the bottom line? Tell me what this church believes, in a sentence. In a sentence, we are about "radically transforming lives, forever for the better." You can quote us on that. We use a formula called Worship +2. This stands for Worship (the Lord), Grow (your life) and Serve (the world). We believe that if you Worship the Lord, Grow in your faith and serve others that you will indeed find that your life is radically transformed forever for the better.
What's the preaching like on Sunday morning?
Fire and Brimstone doesn't really do it for me. Fire and Brimstone doesn't excite us either. We think getting to know Jesus ought to be exciting so we combine an upbeat blend of contemporary and traditional worship styles. We clap when the music is good and shout-out on a really great day. You'll walk away from the Sunday morning message with something relevent that you can use in your life.
I'm nervous about visiting. I don't know anyone. What if I don't fit in?
Of course you're nervous. We were all once new to Sugarloaf and we tried hard to remember that you took the first giant step to drive here and come in the front doors. Let us know it is your first time here, and let us make you feel comfortable on your time table and with your agenda. Contact any of the door greeters, Guest Services or Bev Manson (Director of Newcomer, Membership and Connections Ministries) to help you get acclimated. We are all here for you.
Ok... Maybe I could fit in at Sugarloaf. Is there something for my kids?
Oh boy is there!
Nursery:Our tender loving nursery for babies through three years. There's lots of hugs, snuggles, story time and play. They can even squeeze in a snooze in our clean and comfortable cribs.
B.L.A.St stands for Bible Learning Adventure Stations and is for children age 3 thru 5th grade. (The Edge is a B.L.A.St program ONLY for 5th graders). Whatever you experienced with Sunday School back in the day, forget that. It's not that we don't appreciate it but we've juiced it up a bit so Sunday School is a BLASt! If your 3 yr. old to 5th grader likes movies, construction, science, art, computers, drama, and being wacky then BLASt is for them. They'll be begging you to come back!
SLAM: Maybe all your middle or high school kid needs is a good SLAM! S.L.A.M. stands for "Student Life AM" and it's an innovative Sunday morning worship hour at 9:30 for Middle Schoolers and at 11:00 for High Schoolers; that is relevant, fun and exciting (and loud!). Our own talented band provides worship music specifically chosen for it's relevence to this age group . With one of the best, most challenging outreach programs around, our kids have touched the lives of people all over the US and even Costa Rica, Mexico, Uganda, South Africa and the Czech Republic.
Hmmmm. This sounds good. I may give this a shot. What's next?
Your next step is simple. Click on the "Newcomer" section and we'll walk you through exactly what to expect "before you arrive," "when you arrive" and "after you leave." That way, there'll be no uncomfortable surprises. But if you'd rather know more about our purpose at SUMC first before you make your decision to visit, then just click the Purpose button. Either way, we hope to see you next Sunday! |
